In 1906 Domenico and Philomenia Bianchi arrived at Ellis Island. A year earlier Paulo and Orsolo Addessi were among the millions of Italians to cross the Atlantic in search of a better life. Domenico found work in the coal mines of southwestern Pennsylvania where Nana Minnie gave birth to Joseph Louis White.

The family eventually settled in northeastern Ohio as did the Addessis where Paulo built sewers. During prohibition he developed a tunnel system for bootlegging. Jennie Marie Addessi was the youngest of eight children. In 1938 Jennie and Joseph wed, raising five children in a neighborhood built by Joe and his brothers.

A brick oven was the gathering place for their very large family (76 first cousins). Joe Jr. married Jutta Hawk and eventually relocated to St. Louis with their two children Tom and Michelle.

By 2000 Joe and Jutta moved to Hattiesburg to be near their first grandchild Ella and help Tom open a restaurant. One hundred years after the Bianchis and Addessis first came to America, the tradition of great food and family community comes alive with Bianchi’s Pizzeria.
